Introductory Discussion-- Initial Essay
____Hello everyone! I am Sophia Perrin, and this is my first semester dual enrolling at FSCJ! Moreover, I am interested in learning about American political literacy, philosophy, and founding of our good Republic. I have not yet chosen my major, but I suspect it might be related to information security. My career might be anywhere between cryptanalysis and medicine. I play beginner piano because I enjoy classical pieces, and occasionally find myself compelled to make simple computer programs. I’m also casually learning beginner German; Ich mag Deutsch, aber Ich finde es schwer.
____I have not studied enough political science to find a favorite quote, but am partial to “four legs good, two legs bad” (Orwell 34). This idea in George Orwell’s Animal Farm addresses the result of Animal Farm citizens being too foolish to understand their own government. Pigs, such as Snowball and Napoleon, were the only party with both political literacy and political participation. As a result, the Pigs manipulated either ignorance of common-folk, or inaction of educated-folk. The short-sighted citizens in Manor Farm apply to me as a reminder to obtain political literacy in this class, so that I shall not fall victim to similar strategies. Furthermore, “four legs good, two legs bad” also applies to contemporary politics where it is an individual’s responsibility to make informed, concise opinions and to participate in the government of their people. Perhaps all contemporary citizens must participate in their government to prevent instances of effective oligarchy.

This little essay is actually quite alright.
I was thinking of displaying the grades I got on my portfolio assignments, but that might be a bit impolite if I display professors' names... I got an A on this one...
